Horsability: What is it?
Horsability is a not for profit Community Interest Company. It is a learning Support Centre is based in a small village called Dolphinholme a few miles south of Lancaster. We aim to offer an alternative learning experience to college and other conventional day services; we can support personal development through creating a portfolio of achievement in a way that focuses on indvidiual needs, promoting the key Valuing People Now priorities of personalisation, inclusion, making friends, and to support people to lead a fulfilling and rewarding life.
Working with individuals alongside horses and ponies opens up opportunities to find a connection with a beautiful animal that will not judge you off your first appearance or take a disliking to you because of your background or lifestyle. They allow you make a connection through being yourself; by your body language, energy and all the non-verbal signs we give out without even knowing.
All this takes place within the horse and ponies habitat, such as a field or sand paddock as well as undertaking various activities, exercises and tasks in a workshop and field shelter depending on the individual or group's specific needs (or the weather!).
